Christmas Card for the Crossing Guard

Saturday, December 21, 2013

I know I recently posted a Christmas card for the crossing guard, but that card was for last year.  Here's the one I made this year!

I used Create a Critter 2 for the sweet little mouse and hats.  I used D'Vine Swirls to embossed the white portions of the Santa hats.  The STOP sign was created with Going Places and George and Basic Shapes.  I finished things off with some Cherry Red baker's twine from My Craft Spot.

The patterned paper I used is from DCWV's 'Tis the Season stack.  The little mouse and sign are popped for a bit of added dimension.

I used two sentiments from My Craft Spot's Jingle All the Way stamp set to complete the inside of my card.

This will likely be my last post before Christmas so I'd like to take this time to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas!! xox

Christmas Tree Gift Bag

Monday, December 16, 2013
My life has been a bit of a blur the past few weeks with the end of semester wrap-up.  As of 7:30ish last night, I finished grading the final paper from my students.  It feels SO good to be done and to have my evenings back.  That said, I've still got a fair bit of baking to do, although that might wait until the end of the week.

I did manage to find just a little bit of time to craft last week.  This week's challenge at My Craft Spot is Wrap It Up (gift packaging).  A few weeks ago, I saw some clip art with a tree containing a variety of sentiments.  I used that as my inspiration to make this gift bag.

I hand cut all the branches - and used a variety of My Craft Spot sentiments to stamp the festive sayings: Jingle All the Way, 'Tis the Season, Think Snow and Christmas Banner sentiments.  Each branch was inked and then embossed with Distressed Stripes.  The stars were cut with the My Craft Spot Small Alphabet metal dies.  (The set of dies has a few fun shapes too!)  I used an argyle folder for the mat.

I also used Stamping All Around Christmas for the "To" and "From" on my little tag - and added a star to that as well.  The "No Peeking" is from the Jingle All the Way set too.  I tied some fun yarn and my bag was complete!

This will be our last challenge of the year at My Craft Spot, so I do hope you'll be able to join us!  We've got lots of fun planned for the new year and I'm looking forward to the holidays to get started on that!!

Winter Wishes

Monday, December 2, 2013
It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!!  Our world is white here and the temperatures have been a bit cold (although they're supposed to head above the freezing mark later this week).  At My Craft Spot, we're adding some sparkle and shine to our lives with this week's challenge!

Although I did pack away some of my craft supplies for our time of transition (living with my mum while we continue our house hunt), I did bring a number of items.  I tend to be incredibly organized with everything labelled.  However, for some reason, I did not label the bin with my stamp blocks and cleaner.  I was just about to write an incredibly apologetic email to Kimberly and, from my seated vantage point, I saw my cleaning spray through the side of a clear bin and knew that all was good in my world once again!!

My card was a quick one to put together - but a difficult one to photograph! It really does look better in person.  The little snowflake in the middle of my card was cut with a Sizzix die.  I used a face stamp from the Jar Full of Fall stamp set to give my snowflake a bit of personality and used two blue gems for his rosy cheeks.  The larger stamped snowflakes are from White Christmas and the little ones are from Jar Full of Christmas.  I also used White Christmas for the "Winter Wishes" sentiment on my snowflake-punched border along the bottom.  I finished everything off with some little gems on my snowflakes and some glittery silver to dot the i's of the sentiment.

Please head over to My Craft Spot to see what the rest of the design team has created for our Sparkle and Shine challenge - and then link up your own project for a chance to win this week's prize!

Have a Holly Jolly Christmas!

Saturday, November 30, 2013
Happy Saturday! It's my delight to be sharing a project over at My Craft Spot today.  I made these fun little cards to spread some Christmas cheer!

The sweet little reindeer are from Create a Critter and they're adhered to a mat cut from Elegant Edges which is layered on the card base.  I faux stitched around the card base .  The top layer of the mat was embossed with my Cuttlebug to add some fun snowflakes to the background.  To add a bit more interest to my reindeer, I covered their little red noses with Glossy Accents and gave each a festive bow made with My Craft Spot's Christmas Candy Cane baker's twine.

The sentiment is from My Craft Spot's Jingle All the Way stamp set.  It fits perfectly inside the Tiny Doilies metal die cuts.  I popped the doilies on my cards for a bit of dimension.

Have you checked out My Craft Spot's challenge this week?  It's a Christmas shape card challenge.  Click HERE to see all the design team inspiration and then link up your own shaped Christmas card for a chance to win this week's prize: the NEW Jar Full of Christmas stamp set!

Chocolate Pouches

Saturday, November 23, 2013
Happy Saturday! I'm pleased to be sharing a project over at My Craft Spot today - and am sharing it here on my blog too!  These little sour cream containers are so quick and easy to put together and make a wonderful alternative to a bow on a gift.  I've also made a number of pouches to put on my colleagues desks as a special Christmas treat - with Lindt chocolate balls tucked inside.  (Of course, I always sample them to be sure they're good... and they are!!  Still, perhaps I should try another just to be certain.)

To put these pouches together, I used patterned paper cut to 6x6.  (Click HERE for a tutorial on how to make these pouches.)  I used My Craft Spot's Jingle All the Way stamp set for my Merriest Wishes sentiment.  The tags and scalloped shadows were then punched with Stampin' Up punches.  The little stamped candy cane is from the same set.  So cute!

To finish things off, I used Peppermint Stick baker's twine tied in a bow.  Easy peasy and a delight to give and receive!

Be sure to check out the My Craft Spot shop HERE.  There are 14 different Christmas stamp sets from which you can choose!

I've been wondering whether or not to add the Silhouette Cameo to my Christmas wish list.  I've seen so many amazing projects created with the Silhouette so am really starting to feel I "need" one!!  My talented friend, Linda, has a Silhouette giveaway going on over at her wonderful blog, The Paper Boutique.  I've got my fingers crossed - but I'd also be excited if you entered and won too!

Just for You Card/Gift Card Holder

Monday, November 18, 2013
We're moved!  We still haven't found a house so are staying with my mum temporarily.  Last week was INSANE with all the final tasks involved with selling a home and moving.  I don't think I've ever been so tired in my life!!  Somehow, we managed to get everything done AND I was able to get caught up on grading papers for my students.  I hope to visit some blogs by the end of the week.  I'm in desperate need of some creative inspiration!!

We're having a sketch challenge at My Craft Spot this week.  I was able to make my project a few weeks ago.  It's the last thing I put together before packing up my craft room.  It wasn't very hard to put together and I LOVE the way it turned out - all thanks to Kimberly's products at My Craft Spot!!

Here's the sketch:

I started with a standard card base (the card does open up) and then cut mats for the front - in white and patterned paper.  I made a pocket using coordinating paper and used the NEW My Craft Spot Snowflake Border metal die to create the lovely snowflake border.  I added some silver glitter dots to the middle of each snowflake.

The banner was cut from silver cardstock using a NEW Ribbon Banners - Arched metal die and stamped with a sentiment from Friends and Neighbors - Inside and Out (one of the original My Craft Spot stamp sets!.  The little gift card holder in the pocket was hand cut (with a paper cutter) from turquoise and white cardstock.  I used the NEW Ornate Labels - Christmas stamp set to stamp little snowflakes over the white portion.  Corners were rounded with a punch.  The little tab was created with the NEW Ribbon Banners - Straight metal dies and tucked between the two layers.  I then finished everything off with some Caribbean crinkle ribbon from My Craft Spot.  The gift card is held in place with a little tab at the bottom created with a Stampin' Up half circle punch.

Please head over to My Craft Spot to see the rest of the wonderful projects created with this sketch - and then link up your own project for a chance to win this week's prize!

Have a wonderful week!

Crossing Guard Card

Saturday, November 9, 2013
I'm sharing a card over at My Craft Spot today and am posting it here on my blog too. Each Christmas and summer, I create a card for my youngest son's crossing guard.  I actually made this card last Christmas but didn't post it.

The STOP sign was created on my Gypsy with George and Basic Shapes and Going Places.  I added a little red gem to the top of the sign to mimic the flashing red light on the real thing.  The sweet little snowman is from Hello Kitty Greetings.  I added a bit of super fine glitter to his hat scarf and hat.  After rounding the bottom corners of my card, I used a red marker to "stitch" along the edges.

The sentiment at the bottom of my card is from My Craft Spot's Think Snow stamp set.  I also created a little tag using My Craft Spot's Tiny Tags metal dies.  I love the variety of little tags in this set.  I choose a scalloped shadow and the little white top layer comes out with a stitched look.  Love it!  On the tag, I stamped a fun little tree from My Craft Spot's Stamping All Around Christmas set.  I finished everything off with some Candy Cane baker's twine.  It's perfect for Christmas projects!

WINNER

I am SO sorry that this announcement comes so late.  Thanks to all of you who left such kind comments for me during last week's My Craft Spot Stamp Release Blog Hop.  I had meant to post the winner of the metal dies on Monday but have been beyond preoccupied with our upcoming move.  We move on Friday and still haven't found a home that we're happy with - so will be staying with my mum for a bit.  I've also just had a set of essays turned in (I know, bad timing on my part!).  I'm afraid that my blogging will be rather limited for the next couple of weeks.  Anyway, a visit to Random.org has revealed that the winner of the Ribbon Banners - Arched metal dies is Kim from Kim's Kreations.  Congratulations Kim!!  Please email me with your shipping details so I can arrange for your prize to be posted.

My Craft Spot Stamp Release Party Blog Hop!

Saturday, November 2, 2013
It's time for the My Craft Spot Stamp Release Party Blog Hop!  Woo hoo!  Each day this week, we've been sharing some sneak peeks of projects made with the FIVE new stamp sets and THREE new sets of metal dies.  Today, Kimberly will make the full reveal!!  Just head over to My Craft Spot to see all the wonderful new products!!  Plus, we're celebrating the fun with a blog hop - and there are prizes at EACH stop along the way!

For my project, I created a card using the NEW Joy Filled Christmas stamp set.  I just love this set!  It's a wonderful combination of traditional and fun sentiments all rolled into a package of elegantly designed stamps.

After cutting my card base and mats, I used a corner rounder for the top corners.  I then used a Cuttlebug folder to emboss snowflakes on the top mat.  Using Christmas Solutions, I cut the sign from metallic silver cardstock.  I then stamped the wonderful sentiment using Stampin' Up's Cherry Cobbler ink to match the Cherry Cobbler cardstock I'd used as a shadow.   The lovely flourish under the sentiment is from the Tickets stamp set.

Under the sentiment, I added a few punched leaves and berries covered with Glossy Accents.  I finished everything off with some luscious Toadally Green crinkle ribbon tied in a double bow.

I'm delighted to be giving away one of the NEW Ribbon Banners - Arched metal dies, thanks to Kimberly.  All you need to do is leave a comment on this post by Sunday night at midnight.  I'll announce the winner on Monday, November 4.

The next stop along the way is a visit to the incredibly talented Heather of Houses Built of Cards.  In case you've missed some stops, here's the list of blogs on the hop:

Once you're done hopping, head back to My Craft Spot to work on your Christmas wish list!!  Have fun!

Day Five of the My Craft Spot Stamp Release Party

Friday, November 1, 2013
It's the last day of the My Craft Spot Stamp Release Party sneak peeks.  Each day, we've been sharing projects made with the FIVE new stamp sets and THREE new sets of metal dies.  The fun will continue tomorrow though as Kimberly will make the full reveal of ALL the new products - AND there will be a blog hop with prizes at EACH stop along the way too!

Today, we're sharing projects created with the fun NEW Christmas Friends & Neighbors stamp set.  I go insanely overboard with my Christmas baking each year so know I'll get a lot of use out of this new set!  This stamp release party was just the thing to get me started (although it doesn't take much)!

I created a fun little gift bag full of oatmeal chocolate chip drop cookie dough.  I even went so far as to roll each portion so it's just a matter of baking and enjoying!  Using a Sizzix die, I cut the little envelope to hold the baking instructions.  I used Tickets metal dies to cut the little ticket to use as a tag and then stamped the frame using Tickets stamp set.  The fun sentiment is from the NEW Christmas Friends & Neighbors stamp set.  I heat embossed the border and sentiment in order to match the festive patterned paper I used for the envelope.

I finished everything off with with some red ribbon, Cherry Red bakers twine and two little red bells for some extra Christmas cheer!

Be sure to head over to My Craft Spot to see the wonderful creations made by the rest of the design team.  While you are there, don't forget to leave a comment for Kimberly for your chance to win today's prize: Christmas and Valentine's Mix baker's twine!

I'll see you tomorrow for the blog hop!  PLUS, Kimberly will have everything ready for purchase too!  Yippee!

Day Four of the My Craft Spot Stamp Release Party

Thursday, October 31, 2013
Welcome to Day 4 of the My Craft Spot Stamp Release Party!  Each day, we've been sharing sneak peeks of projects made with the FIVE new stamp sets and THREE new sets of metal dies.  On Saturday, Kimberly will make the full reveal - AND there will be a blog hop with prizes at EACH stop along the way too!

Today, we're sharing projects created with the NEW Joy Filled Christmas stamp set and NEW Snowflake Border metal dies.  I LOVE the way my cards turned out.  Plus, they were so quick and easy to put together!

I began by cutting cardstock at 5.5 x 8.5.  I scored the card in half at 4.25.  Using VersaMark, I used a variety of pretty snowflake stamps from the NEW Ornate Labels - Christmas stamp set to create a patterned paper look on my card base.

On the front side edge of the card, I then used the NEW Snowflake Border metal dies set to cut off a border.  I used the same metal die to cut the border from white cardstock and then "puzzle pieced" the border to my card.

At the back of my card, I added a little strip of matching cardstock in order to have something to which I could adhere the border.  You can see where I used a punch to add two little holes to continue the window effect of the snowflake.

To add the sentiment, I used Spellbinders dies to cut labels - one in Cherry Cobbler red for a lovely splash of colour and the top one in white.  I used Cherry Cobbler ink to stamp a sentiment using the NEW Joy Filled Christmas stamp set.  The gorgeous holly flourish is from the same set.  I then finished everything off with a snowflake cut from the NEW Snowflake Border metal dies and added a pretty gem to the middle of each one.

Please head over to My Craft Spot to see the delightful creations made by the rest of the design team.  While you're there, be sure to leave a comment for Kimberly for your chance to win today's fabulous prize: a 'Tis the Season stamp set!

Day Three of the My Craft Spot Stamp Release Party

Wednesday, October 30, 2013
Welcome to Day 3 of the My Craft Spot Stamp Release Party!  Each day this week, we are sharing sneak peeks of projects made with the FIVE new stamp sets and THREE new sets of metal dies.  On Saturday, Kimberly will make the full reveal - AND there will be a blog hop with prizes at EACH stop along the way!

Yesterday, we showcased a NEW set of stamps designed to go with the Jar Basics metal dies and stamp set.  Today's NEW stamp set, Ornate Labels - Christmas, has been created to coordinate with the Ornate Labels metal dies.  These stamps are gorgeous!

I decided to use the Ornate Labels metal dies to create a window in my patterned paper.  I then used a white gel pen to trace around the metal die to create a border around the window.  Behind the window, I adhered some Christmas tree paper and then used Doodlecharms to cut a little Santa to peek in the window.  My D'Vine Swirls Cuttlebug folder was used on Santa's moustache and beard.  The patterned paper (with window) was then popped on top.

For the sentiment, I used one of the NEW Ornate Labels - Christmas stamps.  I stamped the "Believe" sentiment on a banner created with one of the NEW Ribbon Banners - Straight metal dies.  (I'm already addicted to the NEW Ribbon Banners metal dies!!)  I added two gems to finish things off.

To dress up the inside of my cards, I used the NEW Ornate Labels - Christmas stamps for the frame and "Merry Christmas" sentiment.  I then used a little Santa hat stamp from Stamping All Around Christmas for a little bit of extra fun!

Be sure to head over to My Craft Spot to see the fantastic projects created by the rest of the design team.  Remember to leave a comment for Kimberly while you're there for your chance to win today's wonderful prize: sequins (Toadally Green, Berry Red and Christmas)!

Day Two of the My Craft Spot Stamp Release Party

Tuesday, October 29, 2013
Welcome to Day 2 of the My Craft Spot Stamp Release Party!  Each day this week, we'll be sharing sneak peeks of projects made with the FIVE new stamp sets and THREE new sets of metal dies.  On Saturday, Kimberly will make the full reveal - AND there will be a blog hop with prizes at EACH stop along the way!

Do you remember the FUN Jar Basics metal dies and coordinating stamp sets from our last release?  This release adds to the set with the NEW Jar Full of Christmas stamps.  They're made to work with the Jar Basics metal dies and Jar Basics stamps.

I used Jar Basics metal dies and the NEW Jar Full of Christmas stamps to create my card.  I started by stamping a jar on patterned paper and lid on silver cardstock using the Jar Basics stamp set.  I then used the Jar Basics metal dies to cut them out.  I then took the NEW Jar Full of Christmas stamp set to stamp some pretty ornaments in my jar.  For a bit of dimension, I stamped ornaments on my silver cardstock and then cut out the circular portion using Lacy Banners metal dies.  I added a gem to the centre of each ornament and used some silver floss to give the illusion of them hanging in my jar.

I used the NEW Christmas Banner stamp set and NEW Ribbon Banners - Straight metal dies to create my sentiment banner.  I added a bit of sparkly ribbon to finish things off.  This card was very quick and simple to put together.  I let the stamps, dies and pretty papers do all the work for me!

Please head over to My Craft Spot to see what the rest of the design team has created for today.  While you're there, remember to leave a comment for Kimberly for your chance to win today's prize: Vintage Christmas crinkle ribbon.

Day One of the My Craft Spot Stamp Release Party!

Monday, October 28, 2013
Welcome to Day 1 of the My Craft Spot Stamp Release Party!  Each day this week, the design team will be sharing projects made with the FIVE new stamp sets and THREE new sets of metal dies.  On Saturday, Kimberly will make the full reveal - AND there will be a blog hop with prizes at EACH stop along the way!  I'm so excited!

For today's sneak peeks, we're showing off the NEW Christmas Banner stamp set and TWO NEW Ribbon Banner metal die sets (straight and arched).  When I first saw the metal dies, I gasped with excitement.  I LOVE them!!  In fact, I used them for a few projects this week!

I decided to use the new products to dress up a gift bag.   The little elf is from Jolly Holidays and I stamped his face with a Peachy Keen stamp.  It's hard to tell under all that boa trim I used for his hat!!  It might be a bit much, but I just couldn't resist...  For extra fun, I added Glossy Accents to his boots and buttons and a bit of sparkle to the string of lights he's holding.

The "Elf-made just for you" sentiment is from the NEW Christmas Banners stamp set and I stamped it across a banner created with one of the NEW Ribbon Banner - Arched metal dies.  I also used the NEW Christmas Banners stamp set for the "Merry Christmas!" sentiment.

I finished everything off with a bow and now I've got a fun bag for gift giving!

Be sure to head over to My Craft Spot to see the rest of the design team creations.  They're amazing!!  And don't forget to leave a comment over at My Craft Spot for your chance to win today's prize: a Jingle All The Way stamp set!
