Happy Egg Hunting

Sunday, March 31, 2013
Happy Easter!!  I'm delighted to be sharing this special holiday with family.  My daughter and her boyfriend are able to visit this weekend so we're having lots of fun with them.  It's such a joy to have the entire family together to celebrate this very special day.  This afternoon, we'll go to my sister's house for a traditional Easter meal and an egg hunt for the children (young and old!).  I'm also super excited to eat chocolate again!  I had given up my favourite treat for Lent.  It was tough at times but I'm proud of myself for making it through 40 days of no chocolate with no cheating!!

I am elated to be the winner of some SP & Company Easter stamps from my sweet friend, Susie, of Susie Craft Happy.  Susie made sure the stamps arrived before Easter so I was able to create these fun little cards to put at the children's places at the table this morning.  (Thank you SO much, Susie!)

I created these cards using a die from Jaded Blossom.  The eggs - complete with their scalloped shadows, outlines and fun designs - are all co-ordinating stamps from the SP & Company Easter set.  I popped the top layer for some dimension.  I then stamped a fun little sentiment from My Creative time.

I mixed up the colours of the cards as our breakfast table is a colourful place with all the sweets on Easter morning.  Our Easter bunny is a rather spiritual one and always adds a large "He is risen!" across the table - spelled out in jelly beans!  These little cards added a splash more colour and excitement to a morning filled with joy and celebration.

It is my prayer that you will have a blessed day, and that in the midst of all the fun, food and sweets, you will take time to give thanks to God for his promise to us fulfilled.

Happy Easter!!

Easter's on its Way

Monday, March 25, 2013
The past two weeks have flown by.  Today's card is the first thing I've created in almost three weeks!!  We've been ridiculously busy with some planned events and some unexpected ones so there has not really been time for crafting and blogging.  (I have been trying to get to many blogs and apologize to those of you who have not seen me for a bit.)  For the most part, life has been incredibly fun for us - with trips to Toronto to cheer on the Raptors, to watch a live musical performance (front row, centre!!), and to visit my sister.  My youngest also took part in a Special Hockey International tournament which was an amazing experience for him.  Life is good!

This week's challenge at My Craft Spot is "Strings and Things".  We are challenging you to use string or twine on your creations.

I made this Easter card yesterday afternoon.  It did feel good to be back in my craft room!  I used Doodlecharms for the bunny and eggs and created the grass using a pair of fringe scissors from Martha Stewart.  For the sky background, I used a Peachy Keen stamp.  The bunny's ears and body were cut using George and Basic Shapes.  I inked everything!

I used a sentiment from My Craft Spot's "Happy Easter" stamp set across the bottom of my card - and finished everything off with some lovely Spring Green baker's twine, also from My Craft Spot.

Congratulations on Your New Addition

It's "Sweet Baby" week at My Craft Spot.  The timing for this challenge is perfect!  Last Sunday, a former colleague and friend gave birth to an absolutely precious baby girl.  I made this card to offer my congratulations.

The card base is 5.25 x 5.25.  I made it a tiny bit larger than usual to accommodate the cuts for my banner.  I then cut a mat just shy of the base size and inked and distressed the edges.  I also used a pink thread to stitch a border around the mat.  I used My Craft Spot's Lacy Banners metal dies for the banner and then distressed the edges before adding some loose stitches to border the edges.  The letters for GIRL are cut from Makin' the Grade and I used a pink distress ink to colour them.  In fact, I used this distress ink all over the card!

The frame in the center of my card is from Twinkle Toes.  I used my Heart Blocks Cuttlebug folder on the mat in the middle.  The sweet little giraffe is from New Arrival and popped on the card for added dimension.  The sentiment tag is from Twinkle Toes, stamped with a congratulatory sentiment from My Craft Spot's Bundle of Joy stamp set.

I finished everything off with two little punched hearts above the sentiment and some tiny Calico Cottage heart buttons along the banner and below the sentiment.

Please head over to My Craft Spot to take part in our "Sweet Baby" challenge.

Wishing You Luck

This week's challenge at My Craft Spot is sure to get your mouth watering.... It's all about "Tasty Treats"!

I recently made some little treat bags that I will give to my boys on St. Patrick's Day.  I used a bag topper for my treat bags and embossed the white layer with a clouds folder.  The little turtle is from Create a Critter 2 and I embossed the little shell with a mesh texture folder.  The face is from Peachy Keen stamps.  (I'm not sure the "bushy tailed" face goes with my turtle, but it was the right size and fit my little cut so I went with it!)

I gave my turtles some little Pea Pod twine bows from My Craft Spot's baker's twine collection.  The "sun" is actually from My Craft Spot's Lacy Banner's metal dies.  I then stamped a wee sentiment from My Craft Spot's Tiny Tags sentiment stamp set.

Please head over to My Craft Spot to check out the fantastic projects created by the rest of the design team - and then link up your own Tasty Treats creation!
